Toby constructs a "marshalling box" for PV array. Stephen holding some MOV surge protection devices (AS5033).

Rough layout of power control room. From left to right: DC distribution box, AC distribution box (AS3000), 1700W inverter, shunt enclosure and main shutdown switch and fuse assembly.

Detail of shutdown switch/main fuse assembly. Main lead-in cables to battery bank (49mm sq cable).

Detail of shunt enclosure.

Marshalling box on leg of PV array (under construction). Care was taken not to breach the IP55 rating by puncturing the enclosure with screw holes. All screws into blind posts. Conduit connects via weather proof glands.

PV array on temporary timber mount. Horizontal timber skids anchored at each end with star pickets (painted yellow) and hex head screws. Testing connections on PV marshalling box.

Completed marshalling box with earth for MOV surge protection, separate 24V string over current protection and positive and negative bus bars. Large positive cable loops provide easy current measurements with a clamp meter.

NB. Max. short circuit current = 8.0A therefore according to AS5033 the protection for each string needs to be between 1.25 x Isc and 2 x Isc = 10-16A.
