PV Installation Techniques Using Tilt Frame

safety

Eamonn using a fall restraint device (harness and shock absorber) while working where a fall of more than 2m may occur.

protection

Paul (REC) checking the Voc of each string on a 180V PV array. (Note: ladder is tied to roof anchor)

elv segmentation

A means of ELV segmentation of each string (AS5033) must be provided. These modules don't come with fly leads so some were added to allow easy ELV segmentation while working on the array.

flyleads

Fly leads are double instulated so can be left unconduited where they are protected by the module from UV. They should still be secured using cable ties.

jbox

Eamonn installing 20mm conduit for the "return" wire from the other end of the PV string. This cable can be run back through the junction boxes though double insulation must be maintained throughout.

solar dc

Any wiring or conduit caring LV DC must be identified as "SOLAR DC" every 3m. This is to protect against electrical workers mistaking it for an existing 240V AC circuit and cutting into it to without realising that it is live even when the switchboard is turned off (if the sun is shinning).

pve2500

Latronics PVE2500 (2.8kW input max.) grid connect inverter doesn't come with any metering. Adding a simple disk meter allows you to provide a means of logging the PV systems output separately to the main house meter.
