Remote Renewable Power Options

The Australian Government's Renewable Remote Power Generation Programme (RRPGP) provides financial support to increase the use of renewable generation in remote parts of Australia that presently rely on fossil fuel for electricity supply.

The RRPGP will fund up to 50% of the whole power system to a maximum cost of $200,000. Elligibility includes being "off-grid" which is defined as being more than 1km from the grid or costing more than $30,000 to bring the grid power to your home. The RRPGP funded system must include at least 30% renewable generation (ie. solar panels) and be installed by a BCSE accredited installer like SolarQuip.

Displacing fossil fuels with renewable generation such as solar and wind power not only benefits the environment, but can also improve the lifestyle of Australians living in remote parts of the country, giving them greater access to electricity, reducing noise and air pollution and reducing the need to transport fuel over long distances.

Costs vary widely depending on system configurations and energy needs but a small system would cost approximately (including GST) $15,000-20,000; medium system $30,000-$40,000; and large $50,000 upwards.

In addition to the 50% rebate from the Australian Government you will also be elligable to renewable energy certificates (REC's) on your solar panels. These are worth, at current REC prices, approximately $700/kW of solar panels.
